KFC consumers are wondering whether certain outlets are skimping on fried chicken after a Reddit complaint.
"Is it just me or has KFC chicken pieces become ridiculously small?" the user asks, posting a snapshot of a tiny drumstick from a KFC box.
Based on personal experience, several Redditors agreed. "Yep, their chickens are getting really small," commented one. They said they now need four or five chicken pieces to feel full, compared to two before.
Maybe they're right. Since the "chicken wars" of 2019, fast food businesses are seeking smaller birds for their chicken sandwiches. Given the U.S. chicken business, this is shocking.
Because bigger chickens are cheaper to grow, smaller chickens are harder to get in America. Chick-fil-A and Popeyes prefer smaller chickens because they taste better.
Carving smaller birds is also easier. Popeyes ran out of chicken war weaponry in 2020 because smaller chickens weren't always available.
Broilers, America's heavier birds, are developed for meat quantity and quick growth, cutting the chicken industry's costs and making the product cheaper for consumers.
Redditors wonder where the huge KFC fried chicken gone.
"I swear I've eaten KFC at least a dozen times in the past few months at various locations and they all look like this," a frustrated reviewer said. "The wings are even worse." Chicken Little seems unloved.
