Hot dog stalls need chopped onions. For Costco food court consumers, who like the $1.50 hot dog combo, the topping has been a rare treat for years.
Many shoppers have mourned the loss of the popular hotdog topping since the warehouse club chain stopped widely offering it in the US during the pandemic.
Costco has heard your appeals for the sliced onions, which were eliminated in 2023.
"Yes we as a species can confirm that Diced Onions are returning soon," Costco said on May 1.
As early as yesterday, Costco members were informed that the fan-favorite sauce would return to US food courts. On April 30, a Reddit user posted a photo of a notice at their Pacific Northwest facility proclaiming the sliced onion's comeback.
Costco's statement hinted that members won't have to wait long to top their hotdogs with chopped onions again.
The topping's reintroduction will bring one major difference to how consumers may get it.
The returned diced onions will be housed in individual, chilled containers in the food court instead of the cool crank-dispensing apparatus. The notice claimed members might request these mugs.
Some shoppers complained about the purported change, but their excitement for the highly requested condiment's relaunch overshadowed it.
The sliced onions message Reddit thread has over 600 responses from consumers and Costco staff applauding the news.
"This made me unbelievably happy," one consumer said. "Our long communal suffering is over," another added.
Customers may now concentrate on persuading Costco to bring back other food court favorites like the Combo Pizza and Turkey & Provolone Sandwich.
